La Sirena Barrett Vineyards Syrah

The 2007 is highly touted vintage for good reason. It is fully ripe and concentrated. The wine has a ruby deep ruby red color with aromas of ripe black plums, pomegranate, mineral, spice, and pepper, more Cab-like than past vintages. Flavors match the aromas but with textural chewy tannins in the mid-palate. This is quite a hearty big red that is begging for grilled meats, steak, venison, duck, spicy sausage, or rich pastas or lasagna. Flavors perstist with lightly dusty tannins in the finish. The wine shows its terroir from this tiny 2-acre vineyard block, where the soil is quite rocky, with some steep sections that produce tiny, intensely flavorful grapes. The resulting wine shows the dense, rewarding concentration that comes from farming this delightfully scrappy little vineyard.
